Adobe® AIR® is a new generation technology which is about to take the
Web by storm, it allows developers to use well-known and tried
technologies like HTML, JavaScript, Ajax, Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex, in
order to build robust Internet applications, which will be able to work
on different operating systems and platforms including Android™,
BlackBerry®, iOS devices, personal computers, and televisions. Using
this product the developer will be able to create appealing and visually
rich software programs, which combine the local computer resources with
the capabilities of the Internet.
Initially released in February of 2008, Adobe Air took the world by the storm, enabling many web technologies to finally receive characteristics that were previously only available in traditional desktop-like programs. Air enabled thousands of web developers to create their own browser-less runtime which can be effortlessly installed on the hard drive of the user’s PC, and therefore instantly access local storage and file systems which was previously out of the reach of ordinary webapps. However, even though Adobe Air is powered by the Adobe Flash Player as the runtime environment and ActionScript programming language, Adobe Air can natively use Adobe Flash Player apps. They need to be reworked to support all additional features (taskbar integration, window integration, client extensions, file-system integration and countless extensions which are especially needed for video gaming content). Today, Adobe Air manages to reach over 500 million devices on PC, Mac, Android, iOS and BlackBerry.
AIR Top Features:
Stage 3D
Build stunning, blazing-fast cinematic 2D and 3D games for the browser, iOS, and Android™. Use fully accelerated GPU rendering, which leverages the power of OpenGL and DirectX graphics.
Extensibility
Give developers the ability to call into their native, platform-specific code using AIR native extensions. Free sets of native libraries are available through the Adobe Game Developer Tools to further empower developers.
HD-quality video
Play high-quality HD video with industry-standard codecs such as H.264, AAC, and MP3. Use GPU hardware optimization and chipsets that scale across all platforms to provide best-in-class video performance.
